In this post I'll show you how to configure the webcam without the software. _Be aware that the camera's default port is 88._ I wasted 30 minutes figuring this out, more on what this means later.

I'll also show you how to push images to Sensr.net so you can take advantage of all of our cool features, like SMS and email alerts, 30 days archiving, no firewall config, clip sharing, embedable live streams, guest access, etc.

1. Connect camera to your router and power it up
2. Go to your router and find the camera's IP address
3. Point your browser at the camera's IP address and configure it
4. Tell Sensr.net about your camera
5. Tell your camera about Sensr.net

Step 2: Find your router's IP address

For Step 2 you need to log into your router. You can find your router's IP address by going to your computer settings. On a Mac you go to Network Settings > Advanced > TCP/IP. For my MacBook Pro running Lion, it looks like this:

On Linux you can run the ifconfig command to get this information. This is telling you that the router is 10.1.1.1 in my case. A more common setting is 192.168.1.1 but it could be almost anything. Once you find this, log into your router by pointing your browser to http://10.1.1.1 (or whatever address you found on your network). You will probably need to log into your router. Routers vary widely, I'll show you the pages for my Netgear WPN824.

Once you log in, find the page that shows the attached devices. Here's the page from my router, I clicked Attached Devices on the left and got this list.

To find your IP camera, you need to look through the list for the MAC address for your camera. (The MAC address is on the sticker on the bottom of the camera.) Mine ends in 97 so I used Chrome's search (CMD-F) and searched for :97. The IP address in this case was 10.1.1.26.

Step 3: Point your browser at the camera's IP address and configure it

To get to your camera, you point your browser to the IP address you found. In this case, http://10.1.1.26:88. Don't forget to add the :88, this is because the FI9821W listens on port 88.

I also found that Chrome on the Mac won't render the camera's page correctly but Safari does a good job of it. There are some plugins you can use for Chrome, but it's easier to just use Safari.

When you go to your camera's page, it will look something like this.

In Safari you can click on the Live Video tab and watch your camera. From that page you can pan and tilt the camera and watch a live video stream from within your home network. We have some guys removing trees today so I setup the camera outside to watch. It will look like this:

You can see from the preceding screen shot that I'm running the latest firmware, 10.11.1.18.

Upgrade Firmware to 1.11.1.18 or better

The latest firmware upgrade makes this camera work great with Sensr.net. (Make sure you follow the instructions. If you're not running 1.11.1.16 you'll need to upgrade to that first, then upgrade to the lastest, 1.11.1.18. My camera was running 1.11.1.15 so I had to double upgrade.) Step 4: Tell Sensr.net about your camera

Add a New Camera to your Sensr.net account

Simply log into your Sensr.net account click the Add Camera button. Sensr.net has a free one week trial, so give it a go and see if it works for you. (It's free to setup an account with Sensr.net. Tool digital purchase. Camera monitoring starts at $9.95/month after your free trial is up.) Once you login you'll see a page like this:

Next you'll see a page like this where you can set the timezone for your camera, give it a name, and tell us the model. Cameras default to private but you can make them public if you want to share them with the world.

After that, we'll generate some FTP credentials for your camera. This generates a login for your FI9821W V2 to where it can upload images via FTP. This tells your camera where to upload the images. The important information here is:

1. FTP Server
2. FTP User name
3. FTP Password

Save these so we can add them to your camera later.

Step 5: Tell your camera about Sensr.net

Now you need to configure your camera so it will upload images to Sensr.net. Go back to the camera config page using the IP address we discovered above. Click on Network, then FTP Settings. It will look like this:

Put the FTP server from the Sensr.net config page into the first slot. It will look like ftp://f9.sensr.net/ or whatever server Sensr.net assigned for your camera. Currently our servers are named f0.sensr.net through f9.sensr.net. The port should stay 21, and the leave the FTP mode as PASV. The username is unique to your camera so use whatever you got from Sensr.net's add camera flow. Ditto for the password. Best to copy and paste it so you don't make a mistake. Click the test button and the FI9821W will test the login to make sure it works. If you see Success then you're good to go. If not, double check the server, login, and password settings.

We recommend that you have the camera upload one image per second. This way you get a live view when viewing your camera on Sensr.net. To do this go to the Video/Snapshot Settings page:

Here you add 1 as the interval so the camera will continually upload 1 frame per second. Also select all the timeslots so the camera will do this 24 x 7. Make sure to click the Save button at the top. Once you've done this your FI9821WV2 should start uploading to Sensr.net.

On the Sensr.net side the page should go from this:

To a page that shows the image your camera uploaded. Something like this:

Congratulations, now you're done with the camera config. Your camera is now on Sensr.net. We'll archive all the motion events, giving you 30days of archives, SMS and email alerts, guest access, and a whole lot more. You can view the live stream on our website or in our apps. • Lastly, in a few cases (not so often though) you need to update the firmware on the Hikvsion recorder (or camera). Some units run on buggy firmware and may not show the picture on Safari.
